Easter outfits

I found a fun springy fabric at Joann's a while ago and knew that it would be perfect for an Easter dress for my daughter.  I thought I was going to use a pattern that I had but decided to look for something new.  I found this pattern from Lily Bird Studio for her dress, and I am very happy that I found it.  It was pretty easy to make (I am still relatively new to sewing kids clothes) and the design is super cute - its called the Birthday dress and I could totally see me using it again for her actual Birthday dress!  Don't you just LOVE the little flutter sleeves!  The matching hair clip is pretty cute too - I got a new Kanzashi flower maker by Clover at the Sew Expo!  My daughter liked her dress so much that she would not take it off when we got home from taking pictures/seeing the Easter bunny!  That made me happy!

For my son, I found this pattern from Whimsy Couture.  A cute little pair of overalls!  I loved the example in the chevron pattern so much that I found a tone on tone chevron for my son's too.  I struggled with the snap tape opening (my zipper foot was NOT cooperating) but it got done.  I did have to hem it again after trying it on him - oh and take 3 inches off.  I made him a 2T even though he is only 18 mo. old - but I am glad I did because it fits well in the chest, just too long in the legs.  I think I actually need to take it up another inch!  But he sure looks cute - even if he wasn't the best model at the photo shoot (thanks to JCP Photo).
Here are both kiddos in their Easter outfits!  Not the greatest of smiles but hey they are both looking at the camera!!  Happy Easter (almost)!  These cute outfits are now in their closets waiting for Easter Sunday!!

Super Bowl skirt

I know its March already and the Super Bowl was WAY back in February.  But I wanted to write about the cute skirt that I made my daughter for the game.

My husband is a huge 49ers fan (yeah Boohoo! they lost!), so we were so excited that they made it all the way to the Super Bowl.  We have hand me down gear for my son and Daddy bought him a hat but my daughter didn't have any black/red/gold gear for the game.  I had picked up some 49er fabric at Walmart a year or so ago on a trip to Idaho to see family (not sure why an Idaho Walmart had 49er fabric, but I grabbed it!)

I had used this tutorial from Infarrantly Creative before for a quick skirt for my daughter but wanted something a little different this time.  So I found this tutorial from Made.  I did the double skirt version and added the binding on the edge - it turned out pretty cute and its plenty big for her to wear again for next year's football season!  Hopefully the Niners can go all the way next year!

Miss O modeling her new skirt - she wouldn't stop dancing so I really didn't get a great picture!

San Francisco 49er cupcakes I made for the big party!

The happy fam (ok not everyone was happy) BEFORE the end of the game!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Hope you are having a fabulous love day!  Today is my Miss O's big Valentine party at preschool!
We made the heart owl valentines for family - check out how to make them here!  Our family should have received them by now, and here is Nana and Papa with their jumbo heart owl (ok not all of it - its peeking)!
For Miss O's class we found some cute printables on one of my favorite crafty websites, I Heart Naptime (how cute is that name!).  Since they are school themed and include one of Olive's favorite treats it was perfect.  Find the printable here!  Olive would only sign the valentine with her signature O, kinda cute, thankfully I had the stamps so the kids (and parents) knew who it was from.
For her teachers I found something a little more useful.  This super cute printable and idea again from I Heart Naptime.  Hand sanitizer with a cute valentiney label that says "I heard there is a love bug going around".
I can't say enough about how much I love the printables... so excited to get more into making my own!
Happy Valentine's Day to you and yours!

New pic - Olive's birthday outfit

Here is a professional pic of Olive in her birthday outfit!  Its a little blocked because she wouldn't put the zebra down (I made that for her for her birthday).  Thanks to Kristin Harris Photography for the awesome pics!!

Vance's Birthday outfit

Vance's birthday theme was Monsters!  I found an awesome Monster fabric and had to make him a pair of pants and shirt.  The pant pattern came from a book I got from a friend, Simple Sewing for Baby by Lotta Jansdotter when Olive was born, but I hadn't actually used it until after Vance was born!  I made him the super simple pants (same pattern as the animal pants for Olive's birthday) - they are so easy and pretty darn cute on the little ones.
The tshirt I just cut out one of the monsters from the fabric and sewed it on - then I stenciled the words around it.  I think he is the cutest one year old monster on the planet!!
Here are a few professional pics take before his 1st birthday - complete with a crocheted monster hat that I made him!

Birthday outfits! Olive

We threw some awesome birthday parties for our kiddos this year - Olive turned 3 and Vance turned 1!  Olive's theme was animals - and I found an awesome Alexander Henry print that screamed birthday dress!  I used The Cottage Mama's Jany Jumper pattern and added the cutest animal head buttons.  She adored the buttons.  I also made her the cute animal necklace.
And one of her gifts was this handmade zebra - she loved it and so do I!  Brother of course had to have pants that matched Olive's dress!

Sorry for the bad pictures - I promise they will get better!

Dress for Olive

I also recently completed my first dress for Olive!  I have made her skirts before (simple simple skirts) but hadn't attempted any outfits yet.  Well for Christmas I got a couple of sewing for kids books - a girl one - Little Girls, big style by Mary Abreu and a boy one - Sewing for Boys by Shelly Figueroa and Karen LePage.  I am so excited to sew clothes for my kids, especially with all the cute cute fabric out there.

I started with a dress for Olive out of fabric that was originally purchased for a different project.  I wanted to do a test dress before I cut into the adorable animal fabric I have for her birthday dress.
Well I am pleased with myself, I think it turned out pretty cute.  It took me a little less than 3 hours to sew up - which I didn't think was so bad - and I even got to use the button hole foot and function on my sewing machine (so cool!).

Excited to make some more clothes!
She's not the best model (and not the best picture) - but you get the idea.  Cute little apron dress with knots in the straps vs. buttons.  The designer calls it the Knotty Apron Variation of her basic bodice dress.  The print is kitty cats too!

Original Amigurumi

So I finally created a few original crocheted pieces!!  I made a few monsters for my kids!  I am currently working on a whole slew of monsters for Vance's 1st birthday party - for the favors - but we will keep those under wraps for now.

But introducing jeni ro exclusives - one of a kinds.....

 Vance's Green Monster
Olive's Pink Monster (she picked out the colors and I let her choose some features).

I think they turned out pretty cute!!
